Mental Health Barometer

The Human Alert System for Daily Mental Health Checks

Our brains, bodies, and nervous systems are esentially alert systems that notify us about any system hiccups or disfunctions. It’s similar to how a barometer determines weather.

Mental Health Symptoms for depression and anxiety look and feel different for each one of us. Each falls along a wide spectrum from having the “blues” or feeling nervous all the way to inpatient mental health care.

The 2-Week Notice to Gauge Mental Health Symptoms

Experts report that when we “have the blues” or “are nervous” for two weeks or longer, it’s time to see your doctor for an evaluation.

How do we know the symptoms after two weeks? I found it difficult to identify the severity of my symptoms, so I created the “5-Stage Mental Health Barometer.” It helps me identify my levels of depression or anxiety so I can stop it before I enter the next stage. And it even stops me from having dark thoughts and avoid suicidal ideations!

The PDF below lists the symptoms associated with each of the the 5-Stages Barometer. As you read them, remember depression and anxiety show up differently in each of us. I encourage you to list symptoms that are true to you in each of the 5 Stages! Then, when you are feeling out of sorts, check your barometer, and recognize where your mental health stands. Then, you can take action to make positive steps to return to the Sunny & Happy Day.
